If you have a severe toothache, or if your child gets a tooth knocked out at soccer practice, it’s easy to panic. Fortunately, at Elm Creek Dental, we are here to provide the urgent care you need. When a dental emergency occurs, call us as soon as possible. Typically, we can see emergency cases right away.
Common Dental Emergencies
Dr. Carter and his team are ready to treat a wide range of dental emergencies. Common concerns include:
- Broken, chipped, or cracked teeth
- Objects stuck between teeth
- Missing crowns
- Loose fillings
- Knocked out teeth
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Although we will always work hard to fit you in as soon as possible, there are certain things you can do to protect your smile as you wait for treatment. For example, if your tooth is knocked out, place it back in the socket and gently bite down on the tooth until your appointment. If this proves too difficult, keep it clean and hydrated in a saline solution or glass of milk. Avoid touching the roots as you handle your tooth.
If you have an object stuck between your teeth, you can try to remove it with floss or mouthwash. However, to avoid injuring your soft tissues, you should never use a sharp object around your gums.
Missing restorations, such as fillings and crowns, are less alarming than a knocked out tooth. However, you may suffer from dental sensitivity as you wait for a replacement. In some cases, you may be able to reattach the restoration temporarily using dental adhesive. Typically, we can see emergency cases right away.
