Bonding & Contouring

Cosmetic Bonding and Contouring

Sometimes, one or more tooth blemishes may be minor and still have a dramatic impact on your smile’s appearance. For example, a worn down, slightly misshapen, or overlapping tooth can make your whole smile seem uneven. In many instance, we can correct such blemishes with conservative tooth bonding and/or contouring. Both procedures are designed to slightly change minor aspects of your tooth to make it more cosmetically appealing and fit in uniformly with the rest of your teeth.

What Is Tooth Bonding?

When a tooth is cracked, worn down, chipped, too small, spaced too far from those next to it, or more, we may suggest correcting it by bonding tooth-colored composite resin to the tooth. The resin is customized to closely mimic the appearance of your natural tooth structure, and can be bonded to a specific area of the tooth to correct a multitude of blemishes. By sculpting, hardening, and polishing the resin, we can make your tooth whole again with highly lifelike results.

What Is Tooth Contouring?

When a tooth is uneven, has a jagged edge, is too pointy, has a discolored or rough patch of enamel, or more, we might recommend contouring it, or slightly sculpting a small amount of its outer enamel. Tooth contouring is a gentle and minimally invasive process designed to improve your tooth’s shape and contour without altering much of its healthy structure. It can often be performed along with tooth bonding to correct multiple issues at once and help you avoid the need for more involved cosmetic treatment.
