Dental Implants Mean Lifelike Tooth Replacement

If you have lost a tooth, or even if you are faced with total tooth loss, we have a way to address the issue with results that look and act like natural teeth! Dental implants are natural-looking and long-lasting. In today’s blog, the team at Elm Creek Dental talks about implant dentistry for our Maple Grove, MN, patients.

The Benefits of Placing Dental Implants

Dental implants are different from removable dentures or traditional bridges. These more traditional options are held in place with crowns or suction, and they need to be removed every few years because the jaw ridge will change shape without tooth roots to stimulate growth. But with dental implants, we actually insert implant posts that are made from titanium, a biocompatible material the body accepts as root structure. Once in place, these will keep the jaw intact and ensure they have the potential to last for decades to come, possibly a lifetime!

Individual Lost Teeth and Dentures

For an individual missing tooth, we can insert one dental implant into the socket where the tooth was lost. This will then stimulate the growth of jawbone structure to keep the smile intact and allow your new tooth to last. We will attach an abutment to the post, one that extends above the gum line. Our team will then complete your new tooth with a dental crown, one that looks natural and blends with the smile.

But! If you have more severe tooth loss, we could insert two dental implants to support a bridge, or use several across your arch to secure a set of dentures in place. These will be fixed in place, never slipping, and you don’t have to take them out for cleaning or soaking. We take time to ensure your new prosthetic is also natural looking, so you can feel good about your smile and enjoy improved oral health and bite function too.

Maintaining Your Smile

To help keep your smile intact and ensure your new teeth have the potential to truly last, you should take time to brush and floss them daily to keep disease in check, and avoid sugary foods and drinks. You also need to see our team for a checkup and cleaning as well, so we can monitor your smile and offer care needed to ensure your new teeth can last just as long as natural ones do!
